EARLY VOTING BEGINS OCTOBER 15TH!
Sheriff Jim Proctor was born on December 13, 1961, to Ruth and Ted Proctor in Woodbine, Georgia. He is a proud Camden County High School graduate, Class of 1980, and earned a Bachelor’s in Business Communications from Valdosta State College. Sheriff Proctor's commitment to community service began early, marked by his induction into the Order of the Arrow (Boy Scouts of America) and recognition as one of the 1988 Outstanding Young Men of America.
Sheriff Proctor’s law enforcement career began in 1988 when he was hired as a Corrections Officer for the Camden County Sheriff’s Office. He became a Georgia Post Certified Peace Officer in 1989. Over the years, he held various positions, including working in the jail, patrolling the streets, and serving as Jail Administrator. His dedication and service earned him a place in local government, where he was elected to the Woodbine City Council in 1989 and 1993 and later to the Camden County Board of Commissioners in 1994.
In addition to his law enforcement and political career, Sheriff Proctor is deeply involved in community service. He has served on the Gateway Community Service Board and the Board of Directors for Camden House. He is an active member of the Woodbine Lion’s Club, having served as past president, and St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, where he has held the positions of junior and senior warden.
Sheriff Proctor’s dedication to his community and law enforcement is matched by his commitment to his family. He married his wife, Holly, in 1993. They have two daughters, Clare, born in 1997, and Ansley, born in 2001. His service and leadership have been recognized with numerous accolades, including the 2011 Melvin Jones Foundation Award.
In February 2012, Sheriff Proctor resigned from the Camden County Sheriff’s Office and was subsequently hired as a Police Officer for the Brunswick Police Department. His leadership and dedication to public service were further recognized when he was elected Sheriff on November 6, 2012. He received his Georgia Sheriff’s Association Certification from the Sheriff-Elect Academy on December 14, 2012.
Sheriff Proctor’s extensive experience in law enforcement and his deep understanding of community needs shape his vision and priorities for the Office of the Sheriff. He firmly believes that firearms are not the problem and that infringing upon the right to keep and bear arms is not the solution. As a father, citizen, and Sheriff, he advocates for legislation that mandates consistent, swift, and appropriate penalties for illegal possession or use of firearms while opposing any efforts that infringe upon law-abiding citizens' rights.
Sheriff Proctor's commitment to upholding the Constitution and protecting the rights it guarantees is unwavering. He stands ready to oppose any federal or state legislation that infringes upon citizens' rights to bear arms, always striving to provide clarity, act on his beliefs, and continue to be the Sheriff the community has elected him to be.
